I had no expectations when I started painting Primavera, I had no plan, no thoughts, no ideas, just feelings, a lot of feelings that I wasn’t quite sure how to channel. Instead of taking a more straightforward approach, one of intentional discovery of answers, I allowed my feelings to be more like questions, I allowed them exist without any expectation of getting an answer, so I just sat back and created whatever wanted to be created.
The result was a piece that showed itself as a very poignant symbolic way, representative of renewal and transformation.
The large white flower has a hint of foolish purity that comes with new beginnings, sat upon a dark background that suggests that the flower, the blooming, the Primavera, is the light at the end of the tunnel.
The red center within the flower also moved me in unexpected ways, and now I can only see that as a mark of a life force, the passion and courage that takes to begin again.
Another ode to this symbolism of strength and courage, is the woman embracing the panther in the center of the blue square, a sketch that strongly reminds me of the Strength card in the Tarot. The card represents the calmness and tranquility in taming the wild animals life throws at us.
This sense of peace and tranquility is what I feel the most when I look at this painting. - Antonia xx
