Lamb
“When I painted the lamb, I didn’t immediately understand why it had come to me. It felt almost accidental, a small and delicate presence that insisted on being seen. Only later did I recognize its posture: not weakness, but vigilance of a quiet kind. There are forms of protection that appear gentle on the surface, a kind of protection that doesn’t raise its voice or mark its territory, but stays close, alert, almost invisible.
The lamb became a symbol of that understated guardianship, the way innocence can sometimes recognize danger before experience does. It stands at the edge of the image as though keeping watch, offering a kind of safety that isn’t dramatic or forceful, but constant.
In the end, the painting revealed something I didn’t expect: that softness caries its own authority, and that the things we assume need shelter are often the ones sheltering us.” - Antonia xx
